Despite being "technically" user friendly, Apple poses another threat

mom: come help me turn this on (referring to my ipod & ipod stereo dock)
me: ok no problem! hold on

-- five minutes -- ... (clearly I had forgotten)

mom: please, come help me! I'm machine illiterate
me: ok.. let me save this document really quickly, I'll come right now
mom: ok, come as soon as you can. you know technology illiterate people like me…… we get especially scared when we see this apple sign.

me: ..... really?

mom: yeah.. It means it's expensive.

In more technology related rants, presenting to you...

4 Reasons why I think a mouse is important.

Without one....
I cannot eat chips with one hand without getting my laptop keyboard dirty.
I cannot photoshop precisely
Playing games like l4d2 is a futile attempt

Most importantly! !!
there is no glowing aura around the mouse that acts as a calming night light when my laptop AND I go to sleep (pun intended)

Replacing my Dell 1440 Keyboard ahem..

I CAN TYPE NOW!!!! I feel soo freeeee!!! I can type whatever the heck I want without being cheated out of my Q W E R T Y U I O P's LOL. And it was pretty speedy too.

When I ordered my keyboard, I assumed it would come with instructions. Behold, on the zealous day when I finally received the box, it occured to me that the only paper the box held was the receipt. what fail.

And so begins a frantic search for specific instructions online... yelding zero (for my specific lappy). Luckily all dell lappies are somewhat similar so I was able to wing it.  Although, I guess a picture journey of keyboard removal would be useful for those (newbs like me!!!) who also have a Dell Inspiron 1440. So whether you stumbled here by google search or not, here you go. Your route to a new keyboard in 9 easy peasy steps.

1. Admire your nice new keyboard..... and it's dust-free-ness.

2. Unplug lappy. flip flip flip. pop out the battery and cherish how light your laptop is without the darn battery. ahh... if only.

3. Dig out your flat headed screw driver.. take a deep breath and gently fit lift the plastic casing above your keyboard. For the Dell 1440, the whole flap (including the curved top) is actually one whole piece.

4. If you hear a click. something didn't break. lol.  you probably just loosened the backing. There are two notches on each side and one in the middle. Once you loosen the two on each side, loosen the middle one and lift from the middle. Make sure you are gentle!

5. Success! Unscrew the two screws below using a philips screwdriver.

6. Slide up keyboard, but watch out there is still a ribbon cable attached.

7. Release the ribbon cable by lifting up the flat wide latch as shown. At this time you may want to flip your faulty old keyboard over to view the accumulated dust, fluff and crumbs bountiful enough to feed a family of rats -___-

8. Time to clean! We girls don't need tech cleaning kits! Whip out your $42  Mac 187 or other quality makeup brushes. clean, dry, ones that don't shed hair. and start dusting away!!!

Just kidding. I used a mini vacuum, and a microfiber cloth. conveniently found in your eyeglasses case ;)

9. After your lappy is dust free, install in the new keyboard in the opposite manner of how you removed it. (ribbon in, snap latch, slide keyboard in, screw in the screws. put in battery, and turn it on very briefly just to double check if the new keyboard works. if it does, snap the top covering back on) and yay.

10. Give yourself a pat on your back.  Feel techy for 10 minutes until you realize this is the basics of basics (my own realization as well) but nevertheless... YAY. You just saved yourself labor cost!

Hope this was helpful and not downright annoying :/

Anyway, after being shocked at the remnants in my keyboard, I have vowed to keep my laptop covered as much as I can. Here is my current cheap-o asian keyboard covering method. =) <3 cellophane wrap!

It's only on the top... so hopefully won't obstruct ventilation

That's it for today!

No more kids meals... for a while

Although this already made a debut on my facebook, I decided to reserve a  righteous spot on my blog as well, commemorating the completion day of my sister and my McDonald Kid's meal Sanrio watch collection quest.

The story of my day....today... lol.

Chapter 1:  Buy one fail, get one fail free!

Dad: Gina... Gina.. Gina ...
Me: .... huh?!
Dad: A.D.D!!! you have Attention....
        Attention DISFOCUS...
Me: HAHAHAHAA

... clearly knowledge of basic behavioral problems are not required for chemical engineering PhD's...

five minutes later... I tell Jen what happened...

Jen: What? I don't get it...
Me: WHAT? YOU TOO?!!
it's supposed to be Attention Deficient Disorder
         duh...
Jen: OH... u mean "Deficit"
Me:  oh yaaa.. oops

*cries over my bs in psychobiology*

Chapter 2: Oven roasted turkey $20, cranberry sauce $8, a heartwarming thanksgiving greeting.....   priceless $.10

I am currently crossing my fingers that I will recieve the perfect amount of thanksgiving texts that they don't surpass my 200 text per month mark.

I'm on 199/200 and it recycles in approximately three hours and forty six minutes.
:O

Chapter 3:  the vegetable that sounds like a karatechop... shall be karate-chopped out of my LYYYYFE.  (hrmm.. this one needs a witty-er title...)

College has taught me to stand up for my own beliefs.  This is applicable in many situations... including advocating for the satisfaction of my tastebuds.

So today I have decided  that I will not eat anymore daikon unless it is a life or death situation.

(or unless I miraculously like it again .... *cough* VERY unlikely *cough*)

Why?

I'm usually not a picky food eater and I'm actually very willing to try anything new. HOWEVER one "thing" that I can NEVER stand is daikon.

This nasty bugger:

I dislike the texture, the bland taste, the consistancy, the smell, the shape, the EVERYTHING!

Unfortunately, it also happens to be one of my mom's favorite vegetables.

But after unwillingly pushing past my natural gag reflex and forcing myself to eat this for over fifteen years, I pretty much have had enough.

So today after trying to swallow the vegetable for the nth-teen time... I came to a sudden realization.

We only have one life....so why waste it by eatting foods we don't like unless it is absolutely necessary!?

So that's what I've decided....

DAIKON NONO!

with that said... I proceeded to drop the rest of my daikon pieces into my sisters bowl when she was not looking.

problem solved :)

Total aZn breakdance status.... NOT.

So my dear sister taught me a trick today.  That is... how to get asian glow without drinking ANYTHING!  It requires 2 hands, a head, and a clear mind (to keep your balance), oh.. and a bit of strength.  Guaranteed on the first try to get you as red as a tomato.   Let my sister demonstrate first:

Oh, but only amateurs get the glow.. :P

My turnn!! ugh... suck

LOL.. suck .. redo!  OK clarification... i'm actually holding myself upside down for several seconds here. it's not like a flash shot.  hahhaha

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... looks like I hurt my neck and it's painful (it's not). i give up.

k.. going to KO now from exhaustion.  Hahaha... jk. It actually wasn't that tiring. but I looked like a fool HAHA. Oh gawsh.. might take this off sometime.

my father was sporting raybans before you were born.

Yes mam. My father was sporting raybans before you were born.  During my break today I went though some photo albums hidden in the dusty cabinets above our washing machine.  And I discovered several things:

1. Fashion evolves but also cycles.  High waisted skirts/shorts, ray-bans, big glasses, skinny jeans, flats. As my boyfriend once mentioned in his chart topping song, "what goes around comes around" (JUST KIDDING).  Maybe this is a clue that history repeats itself? Maybe. Just please ...no 70 styles... fro do's give me the chills. Almost as bad as those john travolta jeans. But I digress.

2. My mother and father had a western/european style wedding along with an asian one where they wore traditional attire.  The latter I knew... but the former I was quite surprised about.  Let me tell you. Looking at pics of my dad in a tux/bowtie and my mother in a European full lengthed red gown was a bit traumatizing.  As in ... "OMG THEY WERE STYLISH ONCE?" ;) With all the love and respect in my heart, I wonder... If a half black half indian person married a half white half asian person in Mexico.  Would they have 5  different themed weddings?

3. I LOVE FERRETS. they are so cute so cute sooooooo cute.  I love I like.  If I had one, I would name it BOW. How can you ever say no to this face: click,  and you know what's cooler? I've seen one with my own naked eyes before. Proof:

I think this made my day... and OH OH. my mother was sporting over sized sunglasses before you all were born as well. ohhh

just kids :)

asian moms are da bang!

mom looking at clothes in our bag to donate:  gina will u ever wear this ::holds out lONG heavy denim skirt (to ankles.. yes, to ankles)::

g: no i wont, you can donate it.
mom: are you sure?
g: yaa I dont think ill ever wear it
mom: but its still new though with the tag still on
g: yaa, but I dont think ill ever wear it,I dont even know whose it is and why it was in my closet in the first place.
mom: does it not fit?
g: well.. it's because I dont really think ill ever wear a long denium skirt like that. thats why I put it in the bag
mom: sure?  what about during winter time
g: no I will just wear jeans then
mom: so it doesn't fit you?
g: I'm not too sure, but basically it will just waste space in the closet because I won't wear it, and it's not mine. thats why i put it in the donation bin
mom: etc
g: etc
- 4 min overlap-
mom: hrmm.. okay then, ::puts back in original bag::

total time usage = 8 min.
total tasks accomplished= 0

beautiful cookdown

feast your eyes!

I know a lot of friends who would eat along with their apartment mates each night.  The concept sounds so cute, however this would never work for TMG. We have our own schedule, food, and eating style. Yet on the second to last day of us all living together (amidst the hustle and bustle of apartment packing), we decided to have our first and last TMG dinner... topped off with white wine.

Purpose:  Refrigerator clean out.

Location: TMG Apt 12

Style: Ghetto Picnic.

DELICIOUS & Magical. Plus... the Lakers won Celtics later off that evening.... this must mean something as well.
